Read This If You Have Medicare And Medicaid!
Updated: Jul 29, 2021
If you have Medicare and Medicaid, you may qualify for what is known as a Dual Special Needs Plan (DSNP). These plans are “special” Medicare Advantage plans and usually offer some great additional benefits that are not covered by Original Medicare or your Medicaid coverage.
Dual Special Needs Plans are offered by private insurance companies.
Dual plans offer extra benefits and features at no extra cost
Dental care, plus credit for restorative work.
Eye exams, plus credit for eyewear.
Hearing exams, plus credit for hearing devices.
Rides to health care visits and the pharmacy.
Credits to buy hundreds of health-related products.
If you have Medicare and Medicaid, most of the costs of joining a Medicare SNP will be covered for you. Contact your Medicaid office for more information and to see if you qualify for Medicaid benefits.
Care coordination is another big benefit you get with a Dual Special Needs Plan. You’ll have a personal care coordinator. That’s someone who can help you:
Understand your Medicaid and Medicare benefits.
Manage your doctors, specialists, and care services.
Get the services you need to feel as healthy as you can.
Generally, you must get your care and services from doctors or hospitals in the Medicare SNP network, except for an emergency or urgent care, like the care you get for a sudden illness or injury that needs medical care right away.
All DSNP plans must also provide Medicare prescription drug coverage.
Talk to a Medicare Insurance Agent for details about the plans in your area.
